Korg NanoPad2 - 2 Decks, 16 hotcues, loops, etc.

Postby Borfo » Mon Jan 07, 2013 7:26 am

Here's a mapping for the Korg NanoPad2. The Nanopad has 4 scenes, each of which have 16 buttons. I've mapped the controller to control deck 1 and deck 2 - the top row of buttons controls deck 1, and the bottom row controls deck 2 in each scene. Scene 1 and 2 control hotcues, scene 3 controls loops, and scene 4 has controls for mute, low, mid and high kill, a momentary gain boost, reverse play, beatsync and FX enable.

Some interesting effects can be had by using these buttons in combination with the XY pad arpeggiator built in to the controller.

Image

SCENE 1 - hotcues
Buttons 1-8 are hotcues 1-8 for deck 1
Buttons 9-15 are hotcues 1-7 for deck 2

Hold down button 16 and press any hotcue to clear it.

SCENE 2 - hotcues
Buttons 1-8 are hotcues 9-16 for deck 1
Buttons 9-15 are hotcues 9-15 for deck 2

Hold down button 16 and press any hotcue to clear it.

SCENE 3 - loops
Button 1: Loop halve - halve the length of the active loop - Deck 1
Button 2: 1 beat loop - Deck 1
Button 3: 2 beat loop - Deck 1
Button 4: 4 beat loop - Deck 1
Button 5: Loop double - double the length of the active loop - Deck 1
Button 6: Loop In - Deck 1
Button 7: Loop Out - Deck 1
Button 8: Reloop/exit - Deck 1

Hold down button 2, 3, 4, or 8 then press Loop Halve or Loop Double to move the loop backwards or forwards by a few milliseconds per press.

The bottom row of buttons does the same thing for Deck 2.

SCENE 4 - misc
Button 1: Mute - Deck 1
Button 2: Low Kill - Deck 1
Button 3: Mid Kill - Deck 1
Button 4: High Kill - Deck 1
Button 5: Momentary Gain Boost - Deck 1
Button 6: Reverse Play - Deck 1
Button 7: Beatsync - Deck 1
Button 8: FX toggle - Deck 1

Bottom row of buttons does the same thing for Deck 2.

Developed on Mixxx 1.10.1, also tested and works on 1.11 Beta2

Added this preset to Mixxx 1.11.0. Thanks Borfo!

Thanks very much for this Borfo.

For anyone trying to create additional mapping for the X-Y pad using the learn function, you need to install the Korg Kontrol Editor (works totally fine in Wine on Linux incidentally) and disable 'Touch Enable' in the Global settings>X-Y pad section. Without doing this the pad sends an 'on' signal first before any X-Y data, which is consequently mapped uselessly to whatever function you try to.
Turn that off and it all works as expected. I mapped X to head mix as there were nowhere near enough knobs or buttons on my Hercules Inpulse 200.

Codes were:
X is Opcode CC, Control 0x01
Y is Opcode CC, Control 0x02
if that helps or means anything to anyone. I'm new to this...
