Denon SC3900 MIDI mapping

Postby nm2107 » Mon May 04, 2020 12:21 am

Hello,

I made a MIDI mapping for the Denon SC3900 multimedia player.

You can check it out here : https://github.com/nm2107/mixxx-midi-ma ... non-SC3900 , it was achieved on mixxx v2.2.3 .

I used a lot these players on Traktor, and now I'm trying to use mixxx on GNU/Linux.

The mapping works well for both normal and hybrid MIDI modes.

The hybrid MIDI mode should be used with a DVS soundcard. There is an explanation of how to setup it for serato here : https://www.denondj.com/kb/1741/ , it's very similar for mixxx.

Hope it can be useful :)

Hello guys,

I've been working on the mapping some more, and now we're able to use the scratching feature and the rotating platter with the normal MIDI mode too :)

It is useful for people who'd like to use this feature without requiring a soundcard for DVS (or if the soundcard is not compatible with the computer's operating system).

Actually, the SC3900 is sending data about the vinyl disc rotation speed, so we can compute the track speed in the mapping's script :) .

Hi,

I've updated the script to switch to `hybrid` MIDI mode by default (i.e. for usage with a DVS system, which requires a soundcard).
In the `normal` MIDI mode, we could only set the platter rotation speed by a 1% gap (not 0.01% gap), which is not precise at all (this is a limitation of the SC3900 unit, unfortunately. See https://github.com/nm2107/mixxx-midi-ma ... -midi-mode for more details).

So my setup is now 2 SC3900 + NI Audio4DJ soundcard + external mixer + mixxx.

The SC3900 are using the Serato freq, and so does mixxx for VCS.
