MIXXX 1.8. & NativeInstruments Audio8DJ - Ubuntu 10.10

Hello,

I just bought a complete new Traktor Scratch Pro from Native Instruments (directly from Native Instruments). Most likely for the AUDIO 8 DJ external Audio Device. And they had a special offer for a complete bundle (Timecode CDs etc.)

My Computer
Chiligreen Platin SE Notbook uses an Intel Celeron processor M743 (ULV 1.3 GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz), 3GB DDR RAM, Toshiba 500GB, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500M, 3x USB 2.0. Audio Interface is a Realtek HD Audio (lspci says: AUDIO DEVICE: Intel Corp. 82801I (ICH Family) HD Audio Controller (rev03)). I have a Dual-Boot system (Windows 7 + Ubuntu 10.10). Ubuntu runs with Kernel 2.6.36-rc7-maveric (tue to Latency Issue - which is not solved yet with HERCULES DJ Console Rmx)

Nevertheless: when I Plug in Audio 8 DJ 'lsusb' sees device Audio 8 DJ
When I start MIXXX -> Preferences -> Sound Hardware ... Audio 8 DJ is listed there ... when I choose Audio 8 DJ and apply my settings - MIXXX gives up - I doesn't get started it closes with no warning or any error.

Something I have to remind or install before I plug in Audio 8 DJ? Some additional Drivers?

then I started MIXXX from via shell-terminal
went to 'Perferences -> Sound Hardware'
- Master: Audio8DJ: Audio8DJ(hw:1,0) channels 1-2
- Headphones: None
- Sample Rate (hz): 44100
- Sound API: ALSA

when i reduce Latency from 11ms down to 5ms -> bam MIXXX closes

Hey absolut_beginner:

It looks like your bug is caused by some combination of ALSA, buggy device drivers, and PortAudio. Check out this post:

Can you try the workaround mentioned there?

I've contacted the PortAudio mailing list about your problem and one of their developers sent me a special version of PortAudio that you should try:

Can you try the following in a terminal:

sudo apt-get install build-essential subversion libasound2-dev libjack-dev
svn checkout https://www.portaudio.com/repos/portaudio/trunk ./portaudio-trunk
cd portaudio_trunk
wget http://web.mit.edu/rryan/Public/pa_linux_alsa.c
mv pa_linux_alsa.c ./src/hostapi/alsa/
./configure --with-alsa --with-jack --with-oss --enable-debug-output
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig


Let me know if you have compile issues. I haven't actually tested that, just going from memory.

That will install this development version of PortAudio. After running ldconfig, then re-run Mixxx. This should run Mixxx with the new portaudio. Let me know if this fixes the problem. If it does then I'll contact the PortAudio developer to let them know it is fixed. If it still crashes, please re-post the Mixxx log because now it will include debug output from PortAudio.

Du schreibst nirgends über eine .asoundrc im Homeverzeichnis... Habe da eine Anleitung gefunden, mit dem Inhalt einer .asoundrc(letzter Beitrag) speziel für Deine Soundkarte.

Nachdem Du diese .asoundrc erstellt hast, und Mixxx neu startest solltest Du die Sound-Kanäle so wie sie in der .asoundrc drinnen stehen auswählen können...

Desweitereren würde ich bei der Mixxx Konfiguration Alsa als Sound-API versuchen.

I have chosen ALSA as Sound API (see my reaction posting from 2010/11/17 7:45pm)

then I started MIXXX from via shell-terminal
went to 'Perferences -> Sound Hardware'
- Master: Audio8DJ: Audio8DJ(hw:1,0) channels 1-2
- Headphones: None
- Sample Rate (hz): 44100
- Sound API: ALSA

But thank you for the Link to the native instruments forum. I will start with your hint and the advices behind the Web-Link you mentioned and if it doesn't solve the problem at all I will continue with the hint of rryan

The curious is that Mixxx runs under Ubuntu 10.04 with these soundcard.

When i type export PA_ALSA_PLUGHW=1 he find the audio 8 without problem only the vinyl control.
