Ubuntu 18.04 stream metadata not received by Shoutcast

Postby KJEno » Sat Jan 19, 2019 4:27 pm

I have had this issue since upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04. It never happened on Ubuntu 16.04 or its derivatives. I also ran openSUSE Tumbleweed very recently without this issue. When I stream, the artist and song information is displayed at the top of Mixxx, but neither the Shoutcast boards in Second Life nor my secondary computer monitoring the stream with VLC receive metadata. The music plays just fine. This occurs with the default 2.0.0 installed from Ubuntu's repos as well as the one installed by adding the ppa and upgrading. I removed Mixxx from the system and compiled Mixxx 2.2 from source without errors. Once again, Mixxx streams the music just fine and displays artist and song information in the title bar, but there is no metadata received in playback.

I installed a stock Ubuntu 18.04.2.

I installed Mixxx 2.2.0 from the PPA and no metadata is being sent to Shoutcast. I have tried Shoutcast 1 and 2 servers.

I can offer the team private use of my stream for testing purposes.

I have just compiled Mixxx 2.3.0 alpha pre on Ubuntu 18.04.2 and there is still no metadata.

So I guess this problem is due to Shoutcast vs Icecast?
On Icecast the metadata works.
The metadata seems to be handled differently... It seems shoutcast has it embedded in the stream and icecast? I don't know.
I'm wondering if it is workable to stream to icecast and then use liquidsoap to push it to a shoutcast server ...

Ok.. This is what I've done:

New VirtualBox virtual machine created from ubuntu 18.04 iso image.
Added mixxx ppa following instructions from Mixxx download page.
Configured Mixxx on this virtual machine to connect to a local shoutcast 2 server on the physical machine running Windows.
Played two tracks on Mixxx
Connected a player to listen to the stream.

Result: Only the channel metadata was received.

Same test with Windows Mixxx: both, channel and Track metadata is sent.

Edit: New test:

Virtualbox image with Zorin OS 12 (Ubuntu xenial derivate).
Added mixxx ppa following instructions from Mixxx download page.
Configured Mixxx on this virtual machine to connect to a local shoutcast 2 server on the physical machine running Windows.
Played two tracks on Mixxx
Connected a player to listen to the stream.

Result: both, channel and metadata was received.
Libshout version on Zorin: 2.3.1-3

It looks like it has been fixed:

Yes, it just looks like! That was for version 2.1

I updated from 2.0.0 to latest version 2.2.2 via PPA and it still isn't fixed!

Any change there is a workaround to get it working again?

------UPDATE------
I got it working now! I renamed the .mixxx folder and put back my database and analyse data.
