Playlist "transfer" problems

Postby sabinkoch » Sat Jun 17, 2017 8:27 pm

Hi all,
as I am very new here, please forgive, if I had nor found an existing entry - if there is one.
I have serched a while, but did not find some answers that fits to my problem.

So, here we are:
I have mixxx 2.0 on my Win7 Pro 64bit PC and on my WIN7 32bit Laptop.

The soundfiles are the same, but in different folders:
- folder "my music" on the laptop drive c
- folder "backup-sound..." on the PC staion on drive E:

On PC and on the laptop the soundfiles are working well, because they are corretly linked to the librarys.

Now, I export a playlist, and try to open that m3u file on ther other computer, it does not work.

As I do not find any hint, I need to ask:
Is that normal, because it is a 32bit and the other is a 64bit version?
Is that normal, because the link to the library is different on both computers?
Is that normal, because it is a known bug?
or
SHOULD that work, usually?

Tanks for any help, as I don´t want to create all playlist in double workload on both computers...

Within Preferences (in the Library section I believe - I am not in front of Mixxx at the moment), there is the option to use relative paths when exporting playlists. If you check that box, you should find that the playlists work correctly, assuming that the files are in exactly the same directory structure on both hard drives.

I tried with the option to use relative paths when exporting playlists, but this does not make any effect or difference.

he playlist is created at the export, but when I try to import it, "nothing happens".

How I do it:
I create the list on the pc.
I copy it on an USB stick and copy that file on the laptop.

Next I create a new playlist - it´s an "empty" one: (0) 00:00 on the laptop and give the same name as the playlist that I try to import as next step - I also tried with different name of course...

So, after the new list is created, a right mouse click shows the menuepoint "import playlist". Click at it and the "opener window" is shown. I can choose the file and click it for "importing it" - but nothing happens. The counter stays at 0 songs and 0:00 hours.

After several tests I can tell:
If I export a playlist on the pc and import the same one on the pc - it works as it should.
When I export on the laptop and try to import into a new playlist it does NOT work.

So the problem seems to be on the import process on the 32bit system (laptop). It is WIN7 Pro SP1 on a Toshiba laptop with a celeron dualcore T3000 (1,8GHz) and 2GB Ram.
I de-installed the antivirus programm as I want to use it offline.

Anthing I can try next ???

Thanks again!!

Please open the playlist and paste the first few lines, so that we can see if we can spot the problem.

Hi again and thanks for your help!

I tried to be more "systematically".
First I installed mixxx 2.0 32bit again on the laptop, but I did not deinstall the previous installation, I just run the installation process again.
I also swiched to english language to make the screenshots more easy for you - before I worked with german language.

Next I deleted all existing playlists and created a new one, see screenshots 1 and 2:

2_playlist.jpg
2_playlist.jpg (79.62 KiB) Viewed 614 times

Next, I exported this small list:

Aftre that, I deleted the playlist and created a new - empty -one and tried to import the list that I creted before:
4_import-playlist.jpg
4_import-playlist.jpg (18.77 KiB) Viewed 614 times

5_import-playlist.jpg
5_import-playlist.jpg (141.81 KiB) Viewed 614 times

But, after clicking the import precess, the playlist stays unchanged and displays 0 songs.
Next I did simply click on library ( it shows all songs as usual), after a few seconds I click again on the plalist, but still unchanged.
Close MIXXX and open it agaion and still 0 songs in the playlist.

Is there anthing I do wrong, or anything i could test?

Doing the same on the pc (the 64bit version) - all is working well.

Thanks again for your input.

Can you please attach the file "supertramp-test.m3u"? (Strip out any personal information first if there is any)

Well that is definitely exporting as a relative playlist, so there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

The only thing I can think is that there's an extra "layer" in one file structure over the other. For example, if on your laptop it is
Code: Select all
C:/My Music/Supertramp - The very best of/Track No01.mp3

and then on the PC, it is
Code: Select all
E:/Backup-Sound/My Music/Supertramp - The very best of/Track No01.mp3

then you need to make sure that your Mixxx library is pointing to My Music in both cases, not Backup-Sound. In other words, wherever you've pointed Mixxx towards your library, the Supertramp folder must be the very next level down. If it is not, this is why your playlist import isn't working.

If you can't spot any problems, can you please post:
- your full path to Track No01.mp3 (on both systems)
- the location of your Mixxx library (on both systems).

OK, I think I understood what is neccessary.
Tomorrow I will try to "analize" the paths and make shure that it is the same relative levels on both systems and test again.
Thanks a lot, I will respond asap.
Best regards!
