Sub-folders for crates and playlists>

Postby 3x5 » Thu Nov 15, 2018 4:12 pm

Is there an add-on, hack, or future plan to put subfolders in crates and playlists? Both are getting pretty long in my library, and it would be good if I could break them up or categorize them in some way.

In the link you posted, the bottom entry says:

Changed in mixxx:
milestone: 2.2.0 → 2.1.1
milestone: 2.1.1 → 2.3.0

What does this mean? I was going to download 2.2.0, but I'm guessing this will be a 2.3.0 feature. Is that correct?

Thanks. I was looking for a Mixxx changelog, but I couldn't find anything before 2.1.0. I'm trying to get an idea of when 2.3.0 will be in beta. Do you have an estimate?

Mixxx 2.3 beta will be in about 3 months. Unfortunately, I'm not sure nested crates will make it for 2.3. The nested crates branch is based on the larger library redesign branch, which has major performance problems and hasn't been worked on much for a while.

OK, if I want to try out this feature, I suppose that means I need to check out the jmigual-library-redesign branch, then compile the code, and chances are it'll crash a lot. Is that right?

I'd be willing to start testing that branch if it would help.

There may still be some crashing bugs in that branch, but the bigger problem is the way it accesses the library database is very inefficient. If you have a few thousand tracks or less in your library, it may be usable, but if you have tens of thousands of tracks, you could experience times when the GUI stalls for a few seconds.
