Cross fading during Auto DJ mode

Postby goran26 » Sat Dec 10, 2016 9:58 am

Hello,

In case, the DJ triggers the switch but wants to delay a bit the trigger and last a bit more the currently playing track.

would it be possible to use the cross fading function to trigger the switch between two audio files during DJ Auto mode?
Track 1, 2 and 3 are in the Auto DJ list.
DJ loads Track A on Deck 1. Auto DJ loads automatically Track 2 into Deck 2.
If the DJ wants to force Auto DJ to switch between currently playing Track A on Deck 1 to Track B loaded in Deck 2, DJ starts moving cross fader to Deck 2. If cross fader crossing middle position, Auto DJ would load the Track 3 into the Deck 1, if the cross fader gets back to Deck 1, the Track 2 is recued at the start.

What do you think about this use of CrossFading during Auto DJ mode? According to me, it is quite usefull and available on famous other DJ Mixing software.

Hi Goran26,

Thank you for your ideas.

Unfortunately I have not got your point exactly.

You are in AutoDJ mode, right?

Normal the AutoDJ will start fadeing lets say 5 s from the end of Track A on Dack 1. How could we signal AutoDJ that It must not fade, because the user takes control?
Just touching the Crossfader will not emit any signal. Cureently you have to disable AutoDJ, make your desired transition manually and enable AutoDJ again. Does this work for you?

You can crossfade from Deck 1 to Deck 2 at any time even if AutoDJ is running, before AutoDJ has started an auto transition. You are also able to start an auto transition add any time by using the fade now button. Does this work foe you?

If cross fader crossing middle position, Auto DJ would load the Track 3 into the Deck 1,

It cannot do this, because Track 1 is still playing at the middle position of the xfader and still produces sound at master output. Or is the
Is the Xfader control decoupled from the real crossfading in the sound engine in this case?

What is the use-case fro this re-cueing feature?

Can you point us a to a manual or tutorial where this feature is explained for the third party tool?

Hi Daschuer,

You are welcome, I love Mixxx ;-) Thanks to the open-source community for this hard work !

Yes i am in Auto DJ mode, and want to trigger the fade when cross fader is moving (the same function as the button Fade Now but instead of fading basically, just use the cross fader function - both tracks playing together until 50% where the Auto DJ fade automatically).

I do not have any manual. I just mentioning this functionnality that i used to have DJing with Traktor 3.

For now, I think Mixxx can do it already. Which version do you use?

Please Try:
* Start AutoDj
-> Deck A will play the first track
-> Deck B loads the second Track
* Press play on Deck B
* Use Xfader to fade to 50 %
-> AutoDJ will now automatically fade to Deck B from 50 % once it is near end.

Does it work? What does not work, what should behave different?

@daschuer

Thanks for your reply. I am using the 2.0 stable version.

I tried :
* Start AutoDj
-> Deck A will play the first track
-> Deck B loads the second Track
* Press play on Deck B
* Use Xfader to fade to 50 %
-> AutoDJ will now automatically fade to Deck B from 50 % once it is near end.

It does not work as you mentioned. Perhaps i am missing something.

Regards and thanks again for your support,

For me, as i explained in my first post :

-> Deck A will play the first track
-> Deck B loads the second track
* Use Xfader to fade to 10%
-> Deck B starts second track
* Use Xfader to fade back to 0%
-> Deck B stops and recues second track from start
* Use Xfader to fade to 50%
-> Deck B starts second track
-> Xfader continues fading until 100%
-> Deck A will load third track

This is used by DJs to announce the new track to dancefloor.

AutoDJ is principally designed for non-attended use, or certainly a very hands-off approach. I don't really understand why, if you are manually moving the cross-fader, you cannot also start and stop Deck B manually rather than the program having to "guess" your intentions.
